Begode has operated out of Dongguan, Guangdong since 2014. One distinction matters: Kebye/Kebaiyi is still the legal company name in circulation, while Gotway and later Begode are the consumer-facing brand names. For riders, the practical timeline is simple: Gotway was the community-known name, then the brand reworked itself into Begode around 2020.

Philosophy

Begode iterates faster than almost any other EUC manufacturer. New models, new voltage platforms, new form factors - the pipeline barely slows down. This is both their strength and their weakness. You get cutting-edge hardware quickly. You also get first-batch quality risk quickly.

What they do well

Raw performance at competitive prices. Begode was the first major brand to push a broadly available 134V platform, then pulled the market toward 168V and later 210V while the wider high-voltage race moved into 232V territory. The 2026 manual shows how wide the current catalog has become: small wheels like Future, Mten5 and A5 sit next to C8, Falcon, T4 Pro, Extreme, Blitz, ET Max, X-WAY, Race and Panther. They have consistently delivered fast street wheels, GT-class machines like Master Pro V3 and Panther, and the one oddball nobody else really matched: the 24-inch Monster Pro.

What to watch out for

Battery safety has been a recurring concern, but the details matter: the 2023 recall covered selected Begode MSP, Nikola+, and RS units sold by eWheels between April 2020 and June 2021 after 14 fire incidents and 1 reported injury. Firmware updates have also been controversial - first in summer 2023, then again on newer wheels from mid-2024 onward, especially around ET Max update-related bricking reports. First-batch build quality can be inconsistent. Sealing, waterproofing, and general QC remain frequent complaints.

The community view

Begode riders tend to be performance-oriented and comfortable with tinkering. The aftermarket is massive - suspension swaps, pad upgrades, pedal changes, shell mods, battery-box changes, and service tools. If you buy Begode, expect to be involved with your wheel, not just ride it.

Pricing

The A2 sits much closer to ~$1,150-$1,299 than the often-repeated ~$490 figure, while the Panther usually sits around ~$4,400 in the high-end range. Begode pricing moves around a lot between markets and sale periods, so this is one of the brands where “as of [date]” pricing matters most.

Never buy batch one blind. Before flashing firmware, verify the exact model, voltage platform, controller generation, and batch/revision.
